Here are some tips to help you take care of yourself:
- Determine the best moments to take care of yourself.
- If you want to maximize your energy levels, maintain a daily routine that allows you to have some down time or time to do something pleasant (e.g., some people like to relax at the same time every day).
- Make a plan to promote your own and your couple’s well-being.
- Decide what you will do and when, then mark it down on a calendar (e.g., take a bath during baby’s nap).
- Be flexible and have a back-up plan if the initial plan does not work.
- Let those around you know that you need to take a break.
- Encourage yourself to honour the time you choose to take a break.
Module 7 offers strategies for overcoming obstacles if you are having difficulty taking care of yourself.
Remember that as a new or expectant parent, your well-being should be a priority. Taking care of yourself is good for your baby as well.
