The many changes that take place during pregnancy and after the birth of the baby can put the couple’s relationship to the test.
- This transition brings stress and fatigue.
- Becoming a parent makes you more sensitive, but this is normal.
- Becoming a parent also puts you in touch with your family ideals, beliefs, and values.
For all these reasons, there may be more tension in the couple than usual.
Beware:
Domestic violence is unfortunately not uncommon around birth. It can be physical, sexual, or emotional.
Although the stress surrounding a new birth can give way to more violence, this is not a normal situation. If you are going through such a situation, it is very important that you talk to a professional about it. See Ressources in the Toolkit.
The You, Me, Baby course does not address issues of domestic violence.
