Examples of self-compassionate thoughts

In the previous module, we discussed distorted thoughts. You can replace a distorted thought with a more self-compassionate thought.

For example, the thought “A good mother should breastfeed her baby” is a high personal expectation.

It can be replaced with the following thoughts:

  • “I would like to breastfeed my baby, but if it doesn’t work, it’s not the end of the world.”
  • “I can be a perfectly adequate mother even if I don’t succeed in breastfeeding my baby.”
  • “The important thing, or what matters, is to have tried.”
