Analogy with your inner dialogue

Helpful and unhelpful thoughts can be viewed as two « inner dialogues ».

  • It makes you feel guilty.
  • It judges you.
  • It does not give you the “right to make mistakes”.
  • This is an attitude that you would not have towards a friend or relative, and one that you would not want your child to learn from as they grow up.
    • It accepts you as you are.
    • It gives you the right to make mistakes.
    • It creates a sense of hope for the future.

In short, it is empathic. It supports you as you would support a friend or relative. It is the “inner voice” that you want to teach your child to rely on.
