A helpful thought is not necessarily pleasant

Take the example of Sarah who suffers from migraines that prevent her from working.

Here is a thought that seems unhelpful because it is unpleasant:

  • « I think I need medical help for my migraines. ».
  • Actually, this is a helpful thought because it promotes Sarah’s well-being.

Here is a thought that seems helpful because it is pleasant:

  • “I’m a strong person and I don’t need help in life.”
  • Actually, this is an unhelpful thought because it could stop Sarah from getting help she needs.
