The program consists of nine core modules and a supplementary module. We suggest that you complete one module per week or every two weeks.
Each module of the You, Me, Baby program has its specific objective:
- Module 1 : Discovering useful strategies for maintaining mental balance and physical well-being when coping with stress
- Module 2 : Understanding the basics of relaxation and mindfulness practice
- Module 3 : Acquiring strategies for managing your thoughts
- Module 4 : Learning new strategies for replacing distorted thoughts with objective and helpful ones
- Module 5 : Taking in your distorted thoughts and changing them if possible
- Module 6 : Doing pleasant activities
- Module 7 : Overcoming obstacles that prevent you from doing pleasant activities
- Module 8 : How to improve communication
- Module 9 : Discovering pleasant activities to do with your baby and ways to deal with tough times
- Supplementary Module : Managing activity restrictions during pregnancy
Most are stand-alone although Modules 3, 4 and 5 are grouped under the theme of thoughts, and Modules 6 and 7 both have to do with pleasant activities. The supplementary module deals with restrictions on activity during pregnancy and applies to all pregnant women, whether or not they have pregnancy-related complications. It is not necessary to do the modules in the order they are presented. Some participants may prefer to start with pleasant activities or thought management, for example. The supplementary module can also be completed at any time. You can work your way through the program however suits your preferences and needs best.
However, when you start a module, you should do your best to complete it, unless what you are learning makes you feel uncomfortable. In that case, move on to some other module, such as the one on relaxation and mindfulness, before having another go at the one you skipped.
For everyone, learning new skills takes time. So, you may need to repeat a module in order to fully grasp the content. The important thing is to make sure that you complete the entire program, as all of the skills covered are complementary. Proceed at your own pace, keep at it as consistently as possible, and you will see results.
